The British Embassy in Amman is seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual for the position of Programme Assistant.
Purpose of the job
This is an exciting new position working on the UK Government’s Conflict, Stability and Security Fund to support delivery of our programmes in Jordan and Syria. Based in the Embassy’s Programme Team, you will enable the smooth delivery of large programmes: around £30m in Jordan and £20m through the Syria Office Amman. You will be responsible for overall financial management, and will provide high quality administrative support to both teams.
Main Responsibilities
• Professional management of programme and project finances, including budget scrutiny, accurate forecasts, and paying invoices.
• Logistical support to programme delivery e.g. managing inbound technical assistance missions to Jordan; liaising with the Jordanian authorities.
• High quality administrative support to the Programme Team and to the Syria Office Amman including coordinating meetings, travel, and logistics; managing correspondence and information; managing team budgets.
• Ad hoc support to programme and project management, which might include monitoring and evaluation, communication, and other areas.
Essential:
• Excellent oral and written English is essential.
• Highly numerate, with experience of working with financial information.
• Strong interpersonal skills and a focus on results.
• Highly organised with a track record as a team player.
• Able to provide efficient support to colleagues in a diverse, high-performing environment.
• Experience of programme/project management and/or of office management is highly desirable; motivation and an ability to learn are essential.
• Computer literacy in Microsoft Office packages.

The position is full-time, at 37 hours a week with considerations of flexibility depending on circumstances. We are looking for someone who can start in May 2016 depending on the outcome of the security clearance.
Pay is on the Embassy A2 (L) scale, starting at JOD 694 per month depending on the candidate’s skills and experience. The package also includes a good level of health insurance and an engaging working environment. We offer opportunities to develop professional skills through our Learning & Development offer. Leave entitlement is 21 days plus 14 public holidays.
