Political
The British Embassy in Vilnius is looking for an Economic/Prosperity Officer to join its busy Political team. The successful candidate will lead on economic reporting and analysis for the Embassy and contributing to regional reporting. The jobholder will also lead on the delivery of the UK’s Prosperity Agenda, planning and implementing project work, and working closely with UK Trade and Investment (UKTI) teams and coordinating with the network of Nordic and Baltic posts in the region. The job-holder will also take forward work on the EU’s Growth and Competitiveness agenda, providing reporting on developments in Lithuania in this and related dossiers and leading on identifying and delivering opportunities for engagement, including managing visits and related project or political work. The job-holder will be a team player – working closely with colleagues in Political Section to support colleagues working on wider objectives. The job would suit those with previous experience in economic or political work or those with relevant studies looking to gain experience in an international environment. This is a full-time position, for a fixed term contract of 12 months which may be extended.
Roles and Responsabilities:
Economic lead (25%)
Lead on domestic economic analysis and reporting, including through engagement with relevant Ministries and commentators. Contribute to regional (NBN) economic reporting as required. Report on Lithuanian positions ahead of relevant EU Councils, particularly ECOFIN. Lead and coordinate relevant visits.
Prosperity lead (40%)
Work closely with UKTI and the Nordic Baltic Network Prosperity Group to advance the UK’s prosperity agenda, for example, through identifying opportunities to advance UK interests in the business environment in Lithuania. Analyse, plan and implement relevant projects in this area. Coordinate with the NBN Prosperity Group.
Lead on EU Growth and Competitiveness (25%)
Take forward the EU Growth and Competitiveness agenda in Lithuania, including progress on completing the single market (e.g. services, digital single market, capital markets union) and on free trade deals (including the EU US FTA). Report on developments in Lithuania in these areas; lead on engagement planning e.g. building relevant contacts and lobbying plans; plan and implement relevant projects; lead on relevant visits.
Political Team (10%)
Providing team support for wider political activities, events and work.
  • Education to degree level ideally in a relevant subject (e.g. International Relations, Politics or Economics);
  • Strong communication skills – written and oral, able to effectively communicate complex economic analysis in English;
  • Ability to work under pressure and deal with competing priorities, working on own initiative but equally effective as part of a team.
  • Previous work experience in an economic or political environment is desirable.

This is a full-time position, for a fixed term contract of 12 months which may be extended.
Salary is dependent on experience and skills. The B3 grade starting salary is from €13,000 gross per annum.
The successful candidate will be subject to professional background check and security clearance.
The successful candidate must have pre-existing work authorisation for Lithuania in order to apply.
Staff recruited locally by the British Embassy in Vilnius are subject to Terms and Conditions of Service according to local Lithuanian employment law.
