Main purpose   of job:
The project officer will be   responsible for developing, managing and reporting on projects in Conflict   Prevention and Stabilisation in support of the UK’s strategic objectives for   a stable and more prosperous Sudan. The successful candidate will have specific   responsibility for developing projects on objectives relating to migration,   countering extremism and monitoring peace-building programming, and to develop a broad understanding of the   UK’s project work in Sudan. As a member of the wider Political, Communications   and Programmes Section, the jobholder will contribute to policy development   and reporting on issues relating to migration and counter-extremism,   including donor coordination.
Roles and   responsibilities / what will the jobholder be expected to achieve?
Project management of Conflict   Prevention and Stabilisation projects (30%)
  • Help   technical leads in the proactive development of project ideas
  • Receive   project proposals and prepare initial assessment summaries for consideration   by the Sudan Conflict Prevention and Stabilisation team.
  • Assist with   production of Business Cases for projects in line with each department’s   procedures
  • Oversee procurement   in line with relevant HMG procurement procedures
  • Support   programme manager in the delivery of the Conflict Prevention and Stabilisation projects
  • Create and   maintain schedule of key project milestones (start/end dates, report due   dates, monitoring visits required, evaluations) and be responsible for   holding technical leads to timescales.
  • Particular   overseeing in the design and delivery of the embassy’s migration and local   peacebuilding action plan.
  • Regular   travel will be required within Sudan, and possibly to South Sudan.
Financial Management of Conflict   Prevention and Stabilisation projects (30%)
  • Maintenance of accurate spreadsheets regarding project   allocations, monthly spend and forecast spend
  • Financial reporting back to the Programme Manager   (monthly), as well as to London
  • Monitoring of spend against allocation per project,   including liaison with project implementing partners
  • Arrange for transfer of funds to partners as required

Monitoring and Evaluation (30%)

  • Liaison with   project implementing partners and regional programme manager in order to   monitor progress against project objectives
  • Arranging and   oversight of project monitoring visits
  • Regular   reporting of project progress to the Sudan Conflict Prevention and   Stabilisation team.
Lead the Communications on our Conflict   Prevention and Stabilisation projects (5%)
  • Developing   and maintaining timely targeted communications material on the projects for   communications team at post and London.
  • Proactively maintain relationships and   communications virtually and with a number of different stakeholders
Team Support and Learning and Development (5%)
  • As a member of the embassy’s Political, Communications   and Programme Team provide ad hoc support to other team priorities.
  •  To undertake necessary training and development   activities for the job

Experience in project management. Confident working with numbers

Experience working in Conflict Prevention and   Stabilisation projects. Experience in financial management.
