Main Purpose of the Job
To plan and deliver first class visit programmes for the High Commission and incoming visitors including ministers and senior officials. Support the effective delivery of the High Commission’s political objectives.
Roles and Responsibilities
Deliver first class visit programmes for the High Commission by - ( 60 %)
Developing a programme of visits that support UK objectives in Sri Lanka.
Developing individual visit programmes, including providing advice on locations, meetings, project visits, and media opportunities.
Building relationships with key partners including government, politicians and civil society to enable smooth delivery of visits.
Arranging visit transport and accommodation.
Accompanying on some visits.
Collecting feedback from staff and partners.
Monitoring visit budgets.
Provide support to wider Political Team work by: ( 30%)
Setting up meetings with government, politicians, and civil society.
Maintaining a contacts database.
Assisting organisation of receptions and other set piece events.
Providing cover for the PA to the High Commissioner and Deputy High Commissioner.
Keep the High Commission’s Crisis Management Plan up to date by: (5%)
Updating roles and responsibilities.
Managing emergency contact lists.
Working with London and Consular Team to implement best practice.

Learning and Development Opportunities
The British High Commission offers a range of learning and development opportunities – on the job training, e-learning, job shadowing, and could include visits to Delhi and London for more substantial training courses. This could include opportunities to develop foreign policy skills, communications, human rights, and crisis training.
There is also the opportunity to be involved with the wider work of the High Commission, taking part in change management, communications, business continuity and crisis management planning.
Working Patterns
Occasional out of hours work will be required to cover receptions or visits, for which time off in lieu will be given.

For British High Commission (BHC) candidates, the Local Staff BHC Terms & Conditions will apply.
The salary will start at LKR 71,481 per month which is paid 13 times a year.

What We Want From You
We are looking for a high performing individual with strong organisational and communication skills to deliver high impact visits for the High Commission. The job holder will be responsible for delivering a busy programme of visits for the High Commissioner, other members of High Commission, ministers and senior officials from London.
The ideal candidate will have an established network of contacts, and be comfortable working with a range of stakeholders, including politicians, civil society, NGOs and project partners and local community. Problem solving skills should be strong. The jobholder will regularly have to deal last minute changes and should be able to spot risks in advance and suggest alternatives.
Excellent team working skills are essential. The successful candidate will be responsible for updating the High Commission’s Crisis Management Plan and will need to build co-operative working relationships across the High Commission and the team in London.
The role will also involve providing support to the Political Officer, and wider political team, in particular with logistics for meetings and events. A solid understanding of the political situation in Sri Lanka is required, and the jobholder will attend and take notes of some meetings.
There will be opportunities for travel around Sri Lanka, accompanying the High Commissioner and Deputy High Commissioner on visits. The position may also require flexible working during busy periods.
