The position available is for an Investment Officer (IO) – 14 month maternity leave contract, based in the British Consulate-General in Calgary. This role delivers foreign direct investment (FDI) to the UK from the prairie region of Canada. Focus sectors for UKTI in the prairies include energy and the environment, financial and professional business services and technology.
- Assist Canadian companies looking to set up in the UK and support those companies already established in the UK market
- Provide tailored information and advice to companies, positioning the UK as an attractive investment destination
- Meet annual foreign direct investment targets and build and maintain an active client pipeline by developing and managing relationships with C-level executives and business leaders
- Maintain current knowledge of UK market trends, incentives, and centres of excellence in order to promote them to a Canadian audience
- Develop and maintain relationships with UK-based stakeholders and delivery partners
- Conceive and execute UKTI activities and events with the goals of increasing awareness of the UK’s market proposition to potential investors, building relationships, and generating leads
- Participate in the activities and events conducted by industry associations and other multipliers, building awareness of UKTI in the business community and serving as the point of contact for UK market information
- Line manage one Business Development Associate
- Undertake occasional travel within Canada and to the UK
- Facilitate and manage visits by senior government officials and other VIPs, including by preparing visit programs and arranging company meetings
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field
- A minimum of five years relevant work experience
- A demonstrable record of achievement in business development in Canada
- Strong client/account management experience and ability to work with senior executives
- Some experience/knowledge of the UK's inward investment and/or business environment
- Ability to speak and write in clear, succinct English
- Ability to be proactive, organized, work to deadlines, prioritize and multi-task
- A self-starter, able to work independently and show initiative with limited day-to-day supervision
- Positive team player who is able to operate as part of a wider, geographically dispersed team with shared goals and wide-ranging objectives
- A highly professional demeanour
- Strong networking skills
- Line management experience
- Computer literacy in standard Microsoft applications
- Driver’s license and ability to undertake air travel including overnight stays

The annual salary for this role is $68,944.32 plus benefits package including extended health care, dental benefits and generous leave allowance.
