The British High Commission in Port of Spain is seeking a dynamic and self motivated individual for the part time position of High Commissioner’s Residence and Events Manager. The British High Commissioner’s Residence is a historic building in Maraval.  As well being home to the High Commissioner, the Residence is the venue for dozens of official events every year, ranging from receptions, dinners and lunches to conferences, lectures and business presentations.  It also hosts senior British visitors to Trinidad & Tobago, including Ministers and members of the Royal Family.
Working closely with the High Commissioner and teams across the High Commission, the successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating delivery of events and management of the Residence and its staff, ensuring that the Residence represents value for money for UK taxpayers, is maintained to the highest possible standard and serves as a showcase for British excellence to its guests.  
  • Co-ordinate delivery of Residence events, working closely with teams across the mission to ensure that functions are delivered within budget and to the highest standard. Work and negotiate with external clients and contractors.
  • Proactively promote the Residence as a prestige venue for events.
  • Ensure the Residence and its grounds are maintained to a high standard through liaison with the Facilities Maintenance contractor and Corporate Services Team and oversight of maintenance works.
  • Manage the Residence team and supervise contract staff.
  • Manage the Residence entertainment budget and oversee procurement of goods and services, ensuring they offer value for money and are in line with FCO guidelines.
  • Manage Residence stocks, ensuring they are properly kept and accounted for in line with official guidance.
  • A minimum of 5 CXCs or equivalent, including in English and Maths.
  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience supervising staff.
  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience in a customer service or events delivery oriented role.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and marketing skills.
  • The ability to work on his/her own initiative and be an excellent team player.
  • Customer-driven focus, with an eye for efficiency and cost-management.
  • A high standard of integrity and confidentiality demonstrated by a proven track record of excellence in a position of trust.

The annual salary for this part time position is $65,286 (based on 20 hours/week).  There is scope for increased hours.  Candidates must be willing to work flexibly to meet the changing demands of our events schedule. Health and pension benefits are available after successful completion of a probationary period and other checks.  Candidates must have independent status to work and reside in Trinidad and Tobago. This requires the individual to be a citizen, have permanent residence, or be in possession of a valid work permit.
