The British Embassy in Dubai has a vacancy for a UK Trade and Investment Adviser.

The successful candidate who fills this senior position will be responsible for the delivery of a high standard of trade and investment support to British companies looking to enter the UAE market, or expand their presence in the region.  The jobholder will be the lead adviser for the UAE on UKTI's sector of Financial and Professional Services and Project Officer for the exciting EXPO 2020 High Value Opportunity (HVO). This is a challenging role that requires excellent interpersonal and customer focus skills, tact, discretion and sensitivity. 

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

Project Work
  • Lead on scoping opportunities, organising trade missions and events, and liaise with UK Project Manager/Specialist for EXPO 2020 HVO.
  • Obtaining the latest information on commercial projects and promoting UK strengths in the sector.

Business Development
  • Maintaining and proactively developing strategic contacts with key stakeholders in the market. Foster relationships between UK businesses and local stakeholders through UKTI services.
  • Mentoring new and experienced UK exporters through the implementation of new strategies and plans to increase their trade activity in the market.
  • Providing Market Access and working towards elimination of barriers to trade for UK plc in the market eg ongoing work managing the Financial Services Working Group under the UK-UAE Joint Economic Committee.
  • Undertaking Business Development Visits to the UK for promotion of market opportunities in the Financial and Professional Services sector.
  • Preparing annual Business Plans and regularly updating the Financial and Professional Services Sector Report on the UKTI portal.
  • Making presentations at seminars and other UKTI events in the UAE and UK and contributing to in-market briefings to promote UK expertise in the Financial and Professional Services sector.
  • Providing written and oral briefing for high level visits quickly whilst under pressure.

UK Trade and Investment Service Delivery
  • Generating business wins, export opportunities and other metrics for UK companies, to contribute towards UKTI targets.
  • Management of UKTI events including Exhibitions, Seminars, Market Visits and supervision of programmes for UK delegates visiting the market.

Line Management
  • Setting work and contributing to developmental objectives of one UK Trade and Investment Officer.
  • Providing guidance and management of research work, and gathering intelligence on commercial opportunities through OMIS (Overseas Market Introduction Service) and other UKTI services.

Contributing towards Wider Post Activities
  • Assisting the Embassy team in making arrangements for VVIP visits as required.
  • To take part in the Embassy emergency planning and any response to a crisis affecting UK citizens.
Staff Management:

To supervise and line manage 1 x Officer.
Minimum Qualifications:
 Essential:
  • Fluent in spoken and written English
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and be able to influence and network confidently with industry leaders, government officials and senior business people.
  • Team player who is capable of working on their own initiative
  • Have experience of working in a trade and investment environment
  • Have a proven record of organisational ability
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office programmes and be able to adapt to other database systems.

Desirable:
  • Arabic an advantage
  • Previous knowledge of financial and professional services
  • Project Management experience useful

Working Hours and Remuneration

The Embassy aims to offer an attractive working environment and remuneration package for this role, including: salary of AED 19,388 per month inclusive, Grade C4 (L); performance bonus, five weeks’ vacation per annum, free on-site parking  and free access to on-site swimming pool, gymnasium and sports facilities.

Conditioned working hours are 38 hours per week. Standard working hours are from 07.30 am until 2.30 pm on Sunday to Thursday plus a 30 minute lunch-break, deemed to be taken from 2:30pm – 3:00pm.  However, the successful candidate may be required to work outside normal working hours.
