A total of 101 students were on Wednesday admitted into various courses at the National Institute for Sports (NIS) in the 2016/2017 academic session. The matriculation took place at the institute’s Conference Hall, National Stadium, Surulere.
Of the number, 74 enrolled for a two-year Advanced Certificate in Coaching; eight for a two-year Diploma in Coaching course; six for a year course in Higher Diploma in Coaching; four students for two years Higher Diploma in Coaching; two for two years Higher Diploma in Sports Management; six were admitted for two years Higher Diploma in Sports Management; and one student also for a two-year Higher Diploma in Stadium Management.
Speaking at the event, the Director and Chief Executive Officer of the National Institute for Sports, Dr. Eke Kingdom Chukwudi, said the occasion marked another milestone in the institute’s commitment to providing quality sports education and an enabling environment for all-round development for the new students.
While admonishing the students on what is expected of them, Chukwudi said they should count themselves lucky to be part of NIS, an institute where great coaches and managers, including Shaibu Amodu, Fanny Amun, late Adeyemi Tella, Chioma Ajunwa and a host of others, who were trained, and made the country proud based on their exploits within and outside the country.
“The challenges before you, therefore, is clear and so I enjoin you to properly utilise the resources at your disposal with a view to dissipating your energies on worthwhile projects, whose benefits should reflect in your academic performance during your stay here. You are expected to merge theoretical experiences with practical expertise in order to demonstrate that Nigeria’s sports professionals have come of age,” Chukwudi said.
